Solstice. Born during the summer solstice in June, she has continued to shine bright as she grown into adulthood. Always a very hearty and stout, strong girl she has grown beautifully - so much so that as our eyes focused on breeding white alpacas, Solstice causes us to pause and continue on with the fawn breeding program as well, she is growing such an advanced and bright type of fleece that we look forward to breeding her with the absolute best in the industry.

Her sire is Hummingherd's Leviathan (a Poseidon son) who took the Hummingherd breeding program to new levels of density and lasting fineness. He won the AOA Fleece show two years in a row in the competitive white class, with his son Levi's 501 of Hummingherd also winning Reserve both years. The show wins on Leviathan offspring are too numerous to count. He truly imparted his strengths onto the next generation consistently, therefore proving himself as a true Impact Herdsire. To cross the Leviathan line with Solstice's dam Deora - an award winning dark fawn female sired by Hummingherd's Legacy de Oro - A Snowmass Legacy Gold son, has resulted in this elite fleeced female with a well-known fawn heritage. Fleece: Trait Data followers will appreciate Solstice's EPD Ranks:

We see a very nice fleece staple length in Solstice, which isn't reflected in her Trait ranking - as the sire was known for a shorter staple due to the high curve and density, which is understandable. However, Solstice herself has pushed out 4 inch staple length or or more at each shearing. She is a solid medium fawn, no white spots, black skin. Excellent conformation in every way. She has the nose shading that leans towards grey, and might be a good candidate for grey breedings. As she was shorn for the first time, our shearer had me walk over and discuss what he was seeing as he sheared... he stated this was the kind of alpaca he would buy!! To me, that says a LOT. He shears thousands of alpacas a year. She has a fleece that is remarkable!

Show Career: In her first show, the Gold Country Gathering by CALPACA - she won FIRST in her class, and went on to fetch the Reserve Color Championship. Next she went to Nationals, every well known breeding program was lined up with Solstice in her class and she was awarded THIRD place! She received a "wow wow wow" from the judge on the scorecard at AOA National Fleece show 2017. She ended her show career with a RCC and Best Crimp (of ALL HUACAYA) at the AOK Blast OFF 2017.

When we had the winning bid for a breeding to Rennaisance Ridge’s Guns A Blazin’ benefiting Jaime Evans in the Herdsires With Heart Auction - we knew Solstice would be the perfect match for ‘Blaze’ - After placing well at AOA Nationals, Solstice went to Uinta Alpacas and under the awesome care of Suzie Radtke there, she bred once and was pregnant! She delivered a robust healthy Dark Brown Male on 2/20/18 - keep your eyes on these two as they continue blazing trails out west!!
